I don’t get it, where is all this bad influence of Barbie. Her movies show girls they can be ambitious. The dolls encourage use of imaginations. I think the adults are concerned or threatened by her body, but the kids don’t even notice. And as far as sexuality and denial of virtue and purity I just don’t see it.

a real brain surgeon that Obama…total sales are down, not just SUV’s and it’s a trend that didn’t just start this quarter or last…tack that on to “Iran spends less than the U.S. on defense so therefore they are not a threat”

That’s a good way of putting it. I’m sure you’ve heard the old line, “Communism would be great if everyone were perfect.” I often wonder if that’s true.

Summer is indeed a beautiful thing Matthew….glad to see you’ve been doing some of your own blogging of late.

Regarding your question, I think we can look at the free market in two ways. On the one hand it is entirely based on human self-interest and greed. On the other hand, it does seem to be the most efficient and practical system of trade in existence. If human nature were perfect, I would still support the free market as it would function in a somewhat softer manner. That said, I don’t think the free market is inherently immoral, although the men who run it often are.

I have a question. You say that free market forces are “the sad and traditional state of mankind.” Would you hold that the free market is an immoral but practical way to get things done? Just wondering.

Re: McCain and Huckabee—it could happen, but doubt it. Huckabee has come out against McCain on many issues, and there might be too much bad blood between them. I think it is more likely that McCain picks someone on the side lines who has not been damaged in this race. Also, I don’t think the social conservatives have many bones to pick with McCain in all honesty, it is the fiscal ones. McCain is a straight shooter for the most part on social issues (stem cell research possibly excepted, I can’t recall).
